Can Future Insurance Trends Be Predicted?

I’d like to share with you a question in today’s newsletter that’s been brought to me a couple of times:

How does our survey determine what will be popular in the near future?

Now, Appulate has recently celebrated its 20th anniversary as a provider of automation technology for both insurance agents and markets nationwide. So, with two decades in our rearview and a lot of combined experience, we’ve got a good idea of what to look out for in 2025. This year, we can safely say that automation and ease-of-use will be the most popular pick by a considerable margin, let’s dive into why.

Agent Expectations

For one, whether it is a Carrier, MGA, or Wholesaler, agents have been clear about their expectations and priorities when quoting new business.

Based on trends from 5 years of Appulate's Annual Survey results:

  • 53% of priorities for agents included technology-driven factors such as:
    • Instant quoting
    • Automated underwriting
    • Data ingestion
  • 47% of agents consistently report product-driven priorities such as:
    • Competitive rates
    • Better commission
    • Personal touch

Simplicity Over “Practicality”

With the constant rise of user-friendly tools and systems, agents are prioritizing ease-of-use over anything else with their markets. But “ease-of-use" can be a wildly subjective term, especially with more tools implementing AI than ever for that exact purpose. But with agents this can often lead to more work, not less. This has been reflected in our findings, since they have been prioritizing markets with faster quoting processes first before anything else, with:

  • 80% of agents wanting instant quotes.
  • 76% of agents needing a more automated underwriting process.

Can AI help? Absolutely. But the minimum standard is simply the fact that agents want to reduce manual entry and investigate multiple markets on a single platform. This is why tools that prioritize automation and ease-of-use will continue to lead the way in meeting agent expectations for 2025.
